90% Tomatometer 52 Reviews 65% Audience Score 500+ Ratings Oscar-winning filmmaker Errol Morris examines the 1953 death of scientist and CIA employee Frank Olson in this docudrama. Olson fell from the window of his New York City hotel room and the death was originally ruled a suicide, but a 1975 report tied his death to a top-secret experiment. The series follows Olson's son, Eric, on his decades-long quest to identify the mysterious circumstances surrounding his father's death and figure out exactly what happened. As part of the search for information, Eric checks into the hotel room in which his father was staying on that fateful day and a forensics expert exhumes Frank's body to find new clues. Catherine Drake Little White Lies Wormwood is not only a fascinating and frightening look into covert homeland operations that took place during America's Red Scare, it's also a moving portrait of a son who never really knew his father. Jan 15, 2019 Full Review Jonathan Romney Film Comment Magazine Wormwood is instantly recognizable as quintessentially Errol Morris, with its in-depth interviews and dramatized sequences echoing The Thin Blue. But it also takes him into uncharted new territory, not least in terms of length and complexity. Mar 8, 2018 Full Review Julia Raeside Guardian As subjects go, Eric is a gift: sincere, articulate, thoughtful and with just enough of a sense of drama to inject the necessary theatre into proceedings. Jan 11, 2018 Full Review Dustin Chang ScreenAnarchy Expansive in its scope, engrossing, structurally daring and thoroughly watchable, Wormwood is a true masterpiece in the age of rampant misinformation and distrust. Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Alberto Carlos Espinof A proposal that is undoubtedly one of the most original in 2017. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 2, 2019 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com What Errol Morris has done with Wormwood is create a documentary that weaves between fact and fiction, attempting to piece together the best obtainable version of the truth knowing full well there may be nothing but lies and deception. Gareth v Would of been better as a feature length rather than a docu-series. Interesting enough. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review Steve M A masterpiece! Some reviewers complain that the documentary is too long. I couldn't disagree more. This is not some 60 Minutes story that can be summed up in less than twenty minutes. The story involves uncovering layer upon layer of lies and deceit by the CIA. Many people involved in the plot didn't fully understand what was happening. The film is also the story of the son's obsession with uncovering the truth concerning his father's murder, an obsession that destroys his life as well. A story masterfully told, worthy of comparison to Hitchcock. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/23 Full Review patrick q Dull. People saying the same things repeatedly. An insult to the audience. Enough content for an episode of 60 Minutes, nothing more. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I was disappointed because of all the glorious reviews. The story itself is mind-blowing, but I found the story telling incredibly tedious. The reenactment my of every quiet moment, where people stand and a drink for ages, or look out of a window, yadayadayada - I had to fast forward. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Genuinely very interesting, but the series is far too dragged out and laborious. This could have been handled better in just two or three episodes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This was an interesting story but they added in too much dramatic speculation and drug it out way too long!
