      Part 1 – Disenchantment

2018 Comedy Fantasy Animation TRAILER for Disenchantment: Season 1 Comic-Con Trailer List
62% 90 Reviews Tomatometer 77% 1,000+ Ratings Audience Score After tackling modern times with "The Simpsons" and the future with "Futurama," producer Matt Groening steps into the past with "Disenchantment." The animated fantasy series geared toward adults takes place in the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland. It follows the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo and personal demon Luci. The oddball trio encounters the likes of ogres, sprites, imps, trolls and human fools along the way. The voice cast features Abbi Jacobson as Bean and includes veteran voiceover artists such as John DiMaggio, Billy West and Maurice LaMarche. Read More Read Less Watch on Netflix Stream Now

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Disenchantment showcases enough of Matt Groening's trademark humor to satisfy fans -- although the show's overall familiarity and disappointing willingness to play it safe may not bode well for future seasons.

Bite m Hard to like this. It's a joke every thirty seconds or so. It's a set up, and a gag. Then a set up, and a gag, then a set up, and a gag. There are no real conversations that make you like any one, or story lines. Just a contrived adventure, with a joke every thirty seconds. It's so rhythmic, you can count the beats. There are usually three parts to the gag. Princess says a thing about the situation. elf responds with something silly. Demon says something mean implying that he's evil but sorta related to the situation. Wait thirty seconds, and the next joke starts. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/14/24 Full Review Nick L In this season I would find to love the comedy, plots, and characters that are set in this fantasy world of "Dream Land" as the main character known as "Bean" attempts to figure out a series of conflicts with her friends "Elfo" and "Luci". Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/22/23 Full Review Liam R I love the series, it's amazing, I wish it didn't end but the creator said that they assured fans they will give the show they ending they always hoped for, personally opinion, I'm sure we didn't want Dagmar alive, I'm pretty sure it would of been a better ending if she was completely destroyed where bean was no way effected. Now we will never know if Dagmar escaped the cage, let's face it, it's just a cage, not a impenetrable dungeon or something Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review Anonymous W Optimistic demon, scaredy-cat elf, a bean with mommy issues, a bunch a odd things Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/23 Full Review Vasto L he drama was portrayed through its trailers with more conflict and interesting situations than it actually contained. I enjoyed episodes 1 through 5, and at that point it seemed as if it were a unique drama with more nuances than the typical genre it followed. There was no real reason for the male lead to like the female lead in my opinion. It was not as if she showed him her true feelings immediately, but rather smiled at him like everyone else. There was nothing that set her apart from any other employee, contrary to what he said in a later episode. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/06/23 Full Review The K This show is my comfort zone. It clearly is Futurama in a medieval setting, but it just works. I love Luci. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Darren Franich Entertainment Weekly The main feeling you get is that everyone's stoked to work for a service without any apparent standards and practices division. Rated: C May 28, 2019 Full Review Troy Patterson New Yorker Playing against the seriousness and self-glorification of so much sword-clanging fantasy, it makes the most of slapstick pestilence and the absurdist misery of peasants, revisiting history as farce. May 28, 2019 Full Review Sam Mossman Arizona Republic The results are positive, the story is fun, there are laughs to be had and the show brings the subtlety and wit we have come to expect from Groening's creations. Rated: B+ May 28, 2019 Full Review James McMahon NME (New Musical Express) Sure, it's no Simpsons, but Matt Groening's new series will reward and surprise the box-set bingers... Jul 14, 2021 Full Review Prahlad Srihari Firstpost Disenchantment shares its DNA -- albeit a much weaker strain -- with the comedy of Monty Python with its penchant for visual gags. But it often relies too heavily on outdated ba-dum-tish one-liners and physical comedy. Jul 23, 2020 Full Review Charlie Ceates Cultured Vultures Disenchantment is far from Matt Groening's best work but has a lot of room for potential and is worth a watch if you are a fan of animation.
