The subtitles fade too. what I loved is the black humor and methaphors involving religion, science, faith and that regardless of one's beliefs and actions we all end up together within the consequences of what makes up society as a whole. This movie is one that was made during what's famously known in Latin America "The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema" a period where Mexican cinema was top notch. Within this category of Mexican Golden Era cinema I also recommend "Macario" [it received an Oscar nomination]. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A melodramatic tone; heavy shadow on the faces and yet the exaggerated tone is also played lightly with dark undercurrents. The true villain is never in doubt as Morales is tormented throughout by his awful wife. The interior photography is lovely and rich, the performances - de Córdova and Rivelles - are wonderful. A glorious satirical black comedy - gleefully attacking the hypocrisy of the church and it's adherents. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member What a fun movie with such a playful tone, it gives the middle finger to Catholic hypocrites. A great watch with the correct run time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member a jewel of the few black humor movies of the mexican cimena golden era.
