Vacancy's restraint with gore is commendable, the thin characters and B-movie cliches less so. Read critic reviews

When David (Luke Wilson) and Amy's (Kate Beckinsale) car breaks down, they have little choice but to spend the night at a remote hotel. The couple entertain themselves by watching low-budget slasher movies on TV -- until they realize that the horrifying images they see were recorded in the room in which they are staying. Pretty bad. This is just a really dumb, really disturbing film. Skip this one.

It has a genius premise and a good director, you mix that in with the Hitchcock style of suspense and bloodshed restraint and what you get is Vacancy. The execution wasn't fantastic because it was very predictable and I thought the ending was deeply flawed but it's not a bad film. It may be more than a bit silly but it made me jump and it creeped me out and these were the films intentions.

In a typical alls well that ends well ending vacancy disappoints. Typical slasher movie ending. It's just not unique in any form, still somewhat scary though

The men in this were really scary... that's what made it terryifying. The acting wasn't really that great and neither was the story!
