Of course Plaza is the perfect fit for an obsessive fan / stalker Ingrid. The beginning is particularly funny, mocking the instagram craze and its participants on both sides, but never entirely giving up on its deeply flawed characters. While things get a little more dramatic later on, the humor does turn darker but it's abandoned altogether. The solution works, too. LA, Venice and Joshua Tree look amazing and the actors all fill their roles with life. Well done.

Really enjoyed this one. Definitely be watching it again. So relevant to all the falseness online and I really enjoyed Ingrid’s stalker tendencies!

(2 1/2 Stars) Ingrid Goes West came out last year amidst a renassaince for Aubrey Plaza after Parks and Recreation. The role is specifically tailored to her weirdness, but Matt Spicer delivers a movie that goes beyond that initial impression of Plaza and the characters she's played in the past. Instead of a weird comedy about a quirky girl, it dips into disturbing territory when the laughs stop flowing and the uneasiness begins to rise over the two hours. I thought Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen both act their hearts out in rolls specifically tailored to the way they may come off to people in real life. Plaza is the weird creep and Olsen is the beautiful blonde Californian. There were a couple of side roles for the males here, but none of them hold a candle to the acting chops of the two women who are clearly on a war path to butt heads further into the plot. Spicer's first major time behind the camera is shot fairly well with a pretty tight cap on locations of Joshua Tree and some part of LA, but he lacks in supplying a film that's enjoyable to watch all the way through.

Often savage, and Aubrey Plaza's performance is fearless. I do wish the satire was a bit more focused.
